Owens in the Community

Special partnerships have taken us out of the Gallery and into our community to deliver programming in unexpected places including a local park, the Middle School gymnasium and an abandoned theatre. We like being out and about but there is lots to see and do inside the Owens too.

We have an exhibition program that brings in artwork and artists from across the country and beyond. Come out to our openings and artists’ talks and visit our painting vault and Fine Art Conservation Laboratory at our annual Open House. Check out our calendar for a full schedule of events.

A monthly program of seriously small after-hours art workshops.

Led by diverse Maker Mentors, each workshop introduces a pocket-sized art project that can be made in two hours or less. Designed for accomplished and aspiring makers alike, MAKER MAKER is for anyone interested in making small things by hand with friends and fellow makers. This informal workshop series explores how working small can be practical, portable and playful, economical, sharable and even wearable.

MAKER MAKER is free and all materials are provided, no registration required.

Held from 7-9 pm three evenings per term. Watch our calendar for upcoming dates!

A chance to see behind the scenes at Owens

Our annual Open House is a rare chance to see behind the scenes at the Owens. Descend into our basement to visit the Fine Arts Conservation Laboratory where works are undergoing repair and our painting vault where over 800 works from our collection are safely stored. University students will be on hand to discuss current exhibitions and art activities will be organized for young visitors.

Collaborative activities for children & families

The Owens was invited by the Tantramar Family Resource Centre to participate in Family Literacy Day activities held at Marshview Middle School in Sackville. For the event we design a collaborative community mapping activity for children and families.
