Studio 360°

Studio 360° is an online video archive profiling six Sackville, New Brunswick artists in their studios. The featured artists work in diverse media from embroidery to animation and painting to ceramics. They also represent careers that range from emerging and established.

At the heart of the project are videotaped interviews with artists that reveal the working context for each artist’s practice as well as their own reflections on their studios as constructed spaces for the creation of art.

The project includes interactive 360˚ panoramic photographs of each studio,  allowing visitors to zoom-in and discover in remarkable detail everything from painting pallets and book collections to works in progress and favourite music CDs.
As the title suggests, Studio 360˚ provides a “full view” of the artist’s practice—as a virtual, up-close look into the private space of the artist’s studio, and as a means to more fully understand an artist’s final production.

Studio 360° is produced by the Owens Art Gallery, Mount Allison University in partnership with Struts Gallery & Faucet Media Arts Centre and funded by a grant from the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation

Visit Owen's Art Gallery with your school.

Take part in our school program for grades K-12. Tours use active looking, reflection and discussion to explore artworks on view. Engagement with exhibitions at the Owens encourage critical thinking and provide students with opportunities to make connections beyond the exhibition to personal experience.

This program addresses multiple curriculum areas including Art Education, English Language Arts and Social Studies embracing the idea of learning “through the arts”. Many tours incorporate a hands-on art making component using the current exhibitions as the source of inspiration.

Tours typically last one hour, however, shorter or longer visits can be arranged to accommodate individual class schedules.

Collaborate to encourage stronger student engagement.

We think that fantastic projects come out of collaborations with teachers and their students. We have worked with schools on partnerships that have taken place over multiple sessions allowing us to dive deeper to explore various topics from Alex Colville and his connections to Sackville to the theme of Night and the shadowy stories that it can inspire. These projects engage students in visual art through looking, talking, investigating, making and reflecting. We get to know students and students get to know the Owens through a forum that brings the voices of youth into the Gallery.

Bring an artist into your classroom.

Bring an artist into your classroom with Studio Call, a free classroom-based program that brings contemporary artists to your school for an artist-led, hands-on “studio” session. An artist’s studio is a place for experimentation and discovery where new ideas, new materials and new ways of working are developed. Studio Call introduces students to artists and current art practice.
